BLESSED

Love

Hey, you ever remember the ten dollar challenge?

It was during the month of Christmas, but should we let it only be during that time?

No.

Well, our church issued a little challenge of their own (not related to the $10 dollar challenge, but similar) during Saturday’s service to go out and bless someone in the upcoming week.

So, Charlie and I were at an Italian restaurant enjoying some salad and spaghetti and meatballs when an opportunity presented itself:

He nodded toward a mother and daughter sitting at a table a few down from ours and says, “So, should we get their meal?”

“You mean pay for it?”

“Yeah, and not tell them.”

“Oh yeah. Let’s do it.”

So, we strategically talked to our waitress and handed her our little credit card. I seriously thought my heart was going to crack through my chest I was so excited.

Don’t get me wrong, we’d done that a couple other times as well, but it still felt like the first time.

What I like is that it’s not only blessing someone to not have to pay for their meal, but it’s also a little witness to the waitress/waiter.

Believe me, we’ve gotten a few raised eyebrows when we’ve done this.

~~So, I snuck a peek to the table~~

The waiter sauntered toward them wearing a grin that would make any super model jealous. “Here’s your ticket. Your meal has actually been paid for.”

Again with the heart exploding in my chest.

Now, I don’t tell you this story to say, “yeah me” but instead, I tell you the story to challenge you to give it a try. It doesn’t have to be a full meal. It can be anything you’re able to do to bless someone — preferably anonymously.

Leslie–I know what you mean. I get all shaky and can’t hardly catch my breath when I’m surprising someone like that. It’s such a rush though after…shakes and all. 🙂

Kat–really, you had it done to you? That’s way cool. You got a little card!! That’s way cool.

KM–Yep, me and Charlie may not be rich and famous, but we are blessed through Christ enough to help someone out with a meal once in a while 🙂 Thanks, girl!

Very cool! I’ve always wanted to do this, but have been too shy. Isn’t that silly? I’ve anonomously sent money to people I know but never to complete strangers.

I had someone do this to me a couple of years ago. The waiter handed me a card that simply said, “You are the recipient of a random act of kindness.”

I was floored, and of course, I passed that kindness on to someone else later in the day. But how cool is that?

I think this is one of your best posts yet!
I’m teary and have goose bumps on my arms.
Matt Lienart (sp) tells some stories such as this. I never took it as my own. I just assumed only the rich and famous could do this
(not that I don’t think of Lynn and Charlie Rush as rich and famous)
Your post made me realize. “I can buy someone dinner.” 🙂 And I love the anonymous part 🙂
    Great writing btw too!
