Now…onto the movie.

Synopsis from IMDB

An ex-con sets out to avenge his brother’s death after they were double-crossed during a heist years ago. During his campaign, however, he’s tracked by a veteran cop and an egocentric hit man.

My Review

This movie surprised me. I mean, The Rock, Dwayne Johnson is the star. Movies like, The Scorpion King, Doom, &  Walking Tall, came to mind, but Faster wasn’t like them.

Now, don’t get me wrong, he’s an action star for sure, but with Gridiron Gang and Game Plan, he kinda started showing a little potential.

Okay, not a ton, but Faster surprised me. I expected it to be a rough blow ’em up and shoot ’em down type of movie.

It was, but the surprising part…the story had some depth!

Yep, I said it. Depth.

Yeah, the whole revenge theme–not so great, but I’m not gonna touch on that here. I just enjoyed the complicated, tortured character.

Johnson did a great job portraying that, too. And boy, did he BULK up for this movie, too. He’d gotten a little thin, in my opinion, for a few of his other roles, but not this one. He had some serious guns–well, I guess I should say arms, because he totes quite a few guns in this movie.

I enjoyed the movie a lot. I love action movies and this one had its fill. It was dark, too. The desire for revenge dragged him into a big, dark hole, that was evident. But the fact that this one had a little depth to it as well was an added bonus.

So, here’s my rating:

4 tickets — See it and share it with a few friends

  1. I saw it on date night with my hubby. 🙂 I like the Rock, but I had trouble caring about the hero in this one – until the scene on the beach, which was toward the end of the movie. So, I’d put this one in the rental column.

    • I can see that. I started liking him a bit later in the movie, too. When I saw that picture, I knew right away what his motive was…I think that melted me a bit to him. The beach scene was amazing. So VERY powerful. But even before that, in the bathroom scene, I think he portrayed the struggle so well that’s why I liked him so much.

But then again, I’m weird. I tend to love the unlovable characters pretty easily. 🙂 LOL

  2. rofl: “I guess I should say arms, because he totes quite a few guns in this movie.” His arms are great and the guns he carries rip the wall apart! Schwew, action lovers will love this movie, but, like you said, the depth will thrill writers, and those who love character driven stories!!! Great review, Lynn. Love watching movies with you!

  3. Thanks for the review. I love Johnson and have found him to be pretty decent in most of the movies I’ve seen with him. Plus, there’s that body and face. Not too hard to appreciate! Will have to try to check this one out when time allows.

  4. I haven’t seen it, but it looks interesting. I don’t mind action movies if there’s a plot to go along with all the shooting and blowing up stuff. I might have to check this one out!

  5. Hmm, well, since you recommend it I might get it on Netflix. Something about it doesn’t appeal to me, but I love action flix, so, maybe. 🙂 Thanks for the review. I never would have even looked into it if I hadn’t seen this.
