Holiday tricks #TheRunningWriter

Finding time to relax is key to good mental health. But finding the time, especially during the holiday season, is so very difficult, isn’t it?

With the rush of shopping, planning, cooking, etc. we often get thrown out of balance. Things have to give in order to make time for the other stuff needing to get done.

But with all the family personalities getting thrown together into one place over the holidays, balance and calm are needed that much more–so we kind of get thrown into a no-win situation, huh?

One thing to try to do when you’re feeling the stress is to find a spot–a coat closet even–and just vanish for five minutes. Sit there in the dark, just you, and breathe.

In and out.

Find your calm.

Find your peace.

For me, I throw some prayers up asking for a merciful spirit. Tensions are high during holiday seasons for a multitude of reasons, help me be the calm in that storm.

A key thing to remember is that no one is perfect. Not even you. So when you’re frustrated by how a family member is treating you, just remember they aren’t perfect. That helps me with the frustration levels.

Do you have a trick you use to handle holiday stress? Do tell. 😀
