Let Go…
Music is a HUGE part of my writing process. Much to my husband’s displeasure, I often find a song and latch on, playing it on repeat incessantly.
I’ve found a new song to do that with.
I’m writing Wasteland 3 right now during NaNoWriMo. I’m having a BLAST over on Twitter while doing writing sprints.
Even if you’re not a writer, you should follow #nanotramps on Twitter. It’s super fun! We sometimes put quotes up from the projects we’re working on…even though they are super rough drafts, we get a kick out of them sometimes.
But anyway, back to my song–gosh I’m easily distracted–Let Go, by RED. Now, I sometimes surprise people by telling them I listen to this kind of music. Oh, and that I have three tattoos, but that’s a whole ‘nother post…
This song, although it’s very hard rock, paints a great picture of Wasteland 3’s main character.
But that’s all I can say about that for now…. **grin**
As soon as I heard it, I knew it was for Wasteland 3. 🙂

Ah, playing the song over and over. Boy, am I ever guilty of that. Glad to find someone else who drives their hubby batty with music.
I’d love to view the video but my dial-up connection is groaning at the thought. Great post. Thanks for sharing.

I like it. 🙂

I think it’s great that you found a song that motivates you to write your story. My NaNo writing is going very slow. Good for you making headway. The song isn’t as bad as I expected it to be! Haha! At least it’s music, not noise. Good luck to you with writing the rest of Wasteland 3. Oh, and the twitter sprints really do seem to help, don’t they?

My wife likes to play the same song over and over! But hey, if it’s motivating you to write, rock on.

ROCK ON!!! 🙂

When I write I need music playing in the background and I don’t find it distracting. I’ve got a few friends that listen to classical music but I prefer country. After reading Wasteland and learning about the characters I can see how this song would fit with one of your main characters.
Lynn Rush
Thanks, Lindsay. Yeah, David from Wasteland was a bit harsh, and book three is Durk’s story, and let’s just say he’s in a …. BAD place. So, this song is pretty fitting. LOL!!

The music type DOES surprise me. I like the Screamo stuff, too–I grew up in a heavy metal town and I just like the stuff. But it doesn’t seem so surprising with me, I think, as I am a little wilder than you seem to be…
I prefer writing in silence, but songs and lyrics do tie to writing ideas.
Lynn Rush
Screamo! LOL. That’s funny. Yeah, my taste for this music is fairly new. It’s just fitting my characters these days. 🙂

I can’t listen to music usually when I write, it distracts me. But I know a lot of writers who it sets the mood for, whatever works I say.
Lynn Rush
Whatever works, it’s so true. 🙂

I love listening to music that matches the mood of the characters or a scene in my book. It helps me get in tune with the emotions they are feeling. My current favorites are Someone Like You by Adele and Jar of Hearts (don’t know the singer).
Lynn Rush
“In tune with the emotions…” You hit it right on the head with that statement. It’s so true. Just like when movie NAILS the song choice on a particular scene!! 🙂

Nice song, I really like Red.

They are pretty rocking, aren’t they?

I love finding a song you can’t get out of your head and I think writing and music go hand in hand!
Lynn Rush
Writing and music do go hand in hand with me. It’s funny how a song can trigger bigtime writing. 🙂 And how it can connect you to a character.
