Star of the War

I got this from a dear friend of mine. Feel free to pass it around:

John Gebhardt’s wife, Mindy, said that this little girl’s entire family was executed. The insurgents intended to execute the little girl also, and shot her in the head…but they failed to kill her. She was cared for in John’s hospital and is healing up, but continues to cry and moan. The nurses said John is the only one who seems to calm her down, so John has spent the last four nights holding her while they both slept in that chair. The girl is coming along with her healing.

He is a real Star of the war, and represents what America is trying to do.

This, my friends, is worth sharing. Go for it!! You’ll never see things like this in the news. Please keep this going. Nothing will happen if you don’t, but the American public needs to see pictures like this and needs to realize that what we’re doing over there is making a difference. Even if it is just one little girl at a time.

Sarah–I cried too. I still get teary-eyed reading it again.
KM–The picture is stirring, isn’t it?
Joyce–He is a living picture of “Be All That You Can Be”, indeed!
Jordana–He is a wonderful man. I’m praying she finds a sweet and loving home. She deserves it.
Lori–I struggled to find words as well.

This is THE most touching picture of courage and strength I have ever seen – in Iraq or anywhere else in the world. A man giving love and comfort to a little girl so ill — he has just assured her she is not alone by wrapping his arms around her and letting her feel his warmth.

I am sure incidences such as this go on every day in war but this particular photo made me more proud of all who serve the U.S. abroad. No guns, no jeeps, no other soldiers around — just a lone soldier giving all he has to someone who has nothing. That personifies to me much more than all the heroes we see on the news. To me he is a living picture of “Be All That You Can Be.”

What a wonderful man! He is a hero! Thank you for sharing. This poor child, I hope that she heals and grows up to have a good life, but how tragic her circumstances have been. Thank goodness for soldiers like this one!
