A Day of Nothing #TheRunningWriter

This morning, about the time I’m typing this, I had been scheduled to be running down the South Rim of the Grand Canyon on my grand adventure of running Rim to Rim to Rim (R2R2R). Instead. Here I am:  I get to spend the next week pretty much like this. Foot up. Netflix binge-watching on the TV. And my little friend Rocket carrying me around the house. I’d been planning the R2R2R adventure for over a year. My sweet hubby and I were going to do it together. He’s never done Rim to Rim, and I’ve done it twice. But[…]

When You’re Down #TheRunningWriter

I miss my trails. Like big time. I’m used to running 30-40 miles per week  I’m used to spending hours out on the trails, frolicking amongst the wildlife, watching sunrises, and bonding with my Trail Sisters. I knew I loved it, but I never realize just how much until I have to step away from it for a while.  Right now, as I sit on my patio watching the sun rise over the hills I’m normally running, I asked my myself, “How will I make it through the next couple of months?”   It’s a fair question for anyone faced[…]

Hitting a curve ball #TheRunningWriter

Today I’m sitting on my stationary bike, pedaling away, coming to terms with the fact that I might be spending more time than I’d like on this thing. I’d rather be out on my trails, pounding up those wicked hills, taking in the amazing scenery, and spending time with my friends. But sometimes things don’t go as planned. Sure. I’d had plans to run the canyon next month with my sweet hubby, I’d had plans to race the four peaks in November…but sometimes life throws you curve balls. Rather unpleasant and painful ones. How do you handle those unexpected obstacles?[…]

#TBT 50-miler

Boy do I have a Throw Back. December, 2016. 52 miles running. 11 hours 54 minutes. I was reminded of this because last weekend I went on a hike at Lost Dog (picture on your right). And I saw the top of Thompson’s Peak…the one I climbed during this 50-miler. Yeah, it’s that massive mountain with the towers on it behind me in this top pictures. It’s the one I have nightmares of…  😉 I’m kidding (mostly). They’re fond nightmares…er…memories. After 32 miles of running, I faced off with that massive mountain, and I made it. It was an amazing[…]

Taking time to smell the roses #GetInspired

My next adventure is running the Grand Canyon! I’m super excited for a couple of reasons. First, it’s on my bucket list to run down to the bottom of the canyon and back up in one day. Second, it’s awesome Daddy Daughter time—YEP, my dad is running it with me! My super coach (and sweet hubby) has me on this wicked awesome (and tough) training plan. And today…I got to do a trail run. One of my favorite places is Deems Hills Trails. It’s amazing the sites offered right here in the middle of the city. So…I had to do[…]
