The Shining
Day three on the five days of scary movies.
It’s been a spooky week so far, and it’s about to get worse with our number 3 movie. . . .

Oh, man, those stares Jack Nicholson throws at the camera. . . Holy-freaking-cow. And the trademark face in the slightly open doorway.
This movie almost made it to the number one spot . . . . . .

What’d you think of The Shining?

And if you’ve missed the previous ones, here they are:
#5 was Amityville Horror
#4 was Nightmare on Elm Street

I’m 37 and only got around to watching this movie this year. I’d heard so much about it and really don’t like horror movies but after reading a 5 out of 5 star review, thought I’d better. Needless to say….great movie. Though I had to have my boyfriend tell me how it would end during the snow chase scene as I couldn’t take the stress of how it ended. The young Jack Nicholson was a great actor. Hats off to Kubrick.

LMAO @ Shelley Duvall comments. This comment may be lost on you, i don’t know if the States got to enjoy On The Buses or not…but Shelley kind of reminded me of Olive from that show/tv movies. hehe
Here’s a page full of images featuring ‘the lovely’ hehe Olive.

I still find myself afraid of this movie, and I never watched the whole thing. Mirrors terrify me periodically too.
Lynn Rush
Mirrors terrified me after Candyman that’s for sure. *shiver*

Love. This. Movie! The Simpsons did a spoof–very funny. 😉
Lynn Rush
I think the Simpsons spoof everything, don’t they? LOL!

This is one freaky movie. Of course, I kind of did hope Shelley Duvall would get whacked, but she annoyed me (sorry!!). Now, the scariest part of the movie to me was the kids…the twin girls, Danny. And of course, everyone runs around saying “redrum” ALL the time in my family because we’re weird. Great pick!!
Lynn Rush
LOL. Yeah. That Shelley Duvall was kind of annoying.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy….I can still see that on the typed sheet over and over and over, then the camera cut to the big stack of typed sheets and you know they’re all full of the same words. *shudders* The Shining also had one of the greatest, creepiest openings I ever remember, where the camera is sweeping over this vast expanse of mountain wilderness with the scary music in the background. There were a lot of things I didn’t like about the movie (sometimes I thought Nicholson was more campy than scary) but I still watch it whenever I get a chance. “Redrum.” Good one!
Lynn Rush
I know, right? That freaked me out. I wasn’t a writer then, but now, it has even more impact. REDRUM!!!

“Here’s Johnny!” Yikes… this is one scary movie – those twin girls *shudder*
Nice choice! The hotel where that is set would make one wicked Halloween Ball venue 🙂 Could you imagine?! eek.
Lynn Rush
“Here’s Johnny…..” You’re right, that’s wicked-scary. Halloween Ball at that place. OMW that’d be creepy, but awesome, right? It’s a beautiful hotel!

I wonder if I should even be commenting. I didn’t see this movie either – the chicken factor once again. Maybe I should “man up” and rent some of these movies. 🙂
Lynn Rush
LOL! NO problem. Maybe I’ll do a week of the top five comedy movies. Or romantic comedy, or something a little lighter, huh? 🙂

I think this is one of the best horror movies ever made. The music is intense. Oh, and those little girls. Yikes. Good choice today, Lynn.
Lynn Rush
Yep, the music and the girls. CREEPY. Oh, and the time when they find what he’s been typing the entire time. YIKES!
