#TheRunningWriter QOTD

Don’t let failure be final.

******

I’ll admit it, failing sucks. And it messes with your head, doesn’t it? Even failures from years ago.

People can tell us to Get over it, but it’s not that easy.

I’ve failed in the writing and running world. And let me tell you, standing at the start line of my last race was a test of my last failure.

What if I DNF again?

What if it gets hot and I get sick again?

What will all these St Jude donors written on my shoe think if I don’t finish?

What if I can’t make it up this mountain?

Then in the writing world. The last few publishers haven’t picked up any of my book ideas lately. Maybe my stories suck. Maybe my writing is getting worse. Maybe I’m not meant to publish anymore books.

See those thoughts? They are legit thoughts I’ve had. See how they can really spiral downward in a hurry?

It happens. Even to the most positive people. The only difference between a malcontent and a positive person is that they can push through the negative. They don’t let it stop them. Or paralyze them.

You can do it, too.

For me, I try to remind myself that I am not defined by what I can or can not do. No. I’m a strong person who tries to do her best in all things. Sure. I might fail, but I’m positive, encouraging, and hopeful during the adventure. And wherever the adventure leads, I’ll do my best to remain so.

Don’t let failures be final. Get back out there and show them who’s in charge!
