When I started writing I did a lot of research online about it. I stumbled onto many informational sites and blogs. And as my first novel began to come together, I was told that I should find a verse or something that is the basis of my book. Something that summed up what my book either was about or wanted to portray.

Then, I noticed that a lot of people keep a journal, or a log of their favorite sayings, verses, etc.  You know, things that rocked their worlds at the time.  I’ve never been one to do that, but I did surf around the Bible and find some of my favorite verses.  Maybe even one that will be the basis of my series of novels.

My favorite verse is:  “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the power of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12

I picked that one because my book is filled with supernaturally charged encounters with demons against which my main character (Shelby) must fight. Sometimes she feels overwhelmed, as we all do, but when she calls on God to help her, He never fails to be there for her.  Sure, her life is far from perfect and easy, anyone who’s read my novels understands that, but she has the peace and confidence of knowing she’s never alone. Other than the fighting demons, it sounds kinda like my life (far from easy and perfect) so I thought it was appropriate.

Do you have a favorite verse from the Bible? Or a saying from a movie?

Or a quote from someone?

**I’d love to hear it.**

  1. one of my favorites is one that helps me understand why everyone doesnt want to come to God it is John 3:19;20 This is the judgment, that Light has come into this world , and men loved darkness more than light because their deeds were evil.vs 20 For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not want to come to the Light for fear their deeds will be exposed.!!!
But praise God once you let go of the FEAR of the enemy The light is so much better and brighter, and you can lay down at night with a peace in your heart that is joy unspeakable and full of Glory……..But that is another verse

  2. Kat, I’m so glad this verse what a blessing to you. God bless you through your office politics.

Jennifer. Welcome! Glad you stopped by. Praise God about your Atheist to Christian. God is good, indeed. Hope to see you here again soon!

  3. Nice blog!

I have a life verse, from Mark 9:24: “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” … I was an atheist, and prayed this verse over my life, and am now a committed follower of Christ.

Also, I love Psalm 63:3: “Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.” … I love the whole idea of God’s love being better and larger and louder and grander and bigger than life itself.

Thanks for sharing, Sheri. Just checking out your blog for the first time, and am really liking what you have here.

  4. Wow, Sheri, Thanks!

    I needed that verse today.

I’ve been incredibly frustrated the past couple of days with office politics at work. I wrote a blog post Monday afternoon denouncing an injustice and came under fire myself for standing up for what I believe is right. I had ridiculous accusations that tried to undermine my credibility thrown at me, and I think it was one of the most trying experiences of my life.

After praying this morning on my way to work, God has done nothing but stand as my shield. Your verse only reaffirmed what I felt.

I’m an Ephesians fan, too. Eph 2:8: “For it is by God’s grace you have been saved through faith . . .”

One of the best quotes I’ve ever heard was from a song (I think by The Bodeans) “To live and die it seems, is a waste without a dream.”

And then there’s: “I cannot change the direction of the wind, I can only set my sails to reach my destination.”
