Musical Monday

What do you think of Alecia Beth Moore?

You might not recognize that name because she’s better known as Pink.

Now, you might know, if you follow my Muscial Mondays much, that I like a wide variety of music and musicians for that matter. When some people find out I like Pink, they arch an eyebrow at me and say,

YOU like Pink?”

Yeah, they pretty much do the same when they find out I have a couple tattoos as well.

It makes me chuckle.

Believe it or not, I have Eminem in my iTunes play list as well. I’m a firm believer that you can find great messages in all different types of music AND people.

You may know that I have my masters degree in Mental Health Therapy and once was an Addictions Therapist. So, maybe it was just the title of the song, Sober, that drew me in because of my history with addictions, but whatever the reason, I’m glad.

Many of her songs, no matter how controversial they may be, always challenge me. I hope you take the time to read the lyrics and/or listen to them on the video, because they blew me away.

Specifically the following phrases:

How do I feel this good sober?

The quiet scares me ’cause it screams the truth

I know what those lyrics mean to me . . . which I’ll share another time,ย  but what do they mean to you?

  2. KM—right on. Thanks for sharing. Those lyrics got me too. Really, the entire song pretty much got the chills covering my skin, that’s for sure.
Kat–Yep, thought it’d hit home for you. ๐Ÿ™‚
    Lori–Right on, sister. Eyes open!

  3. I am not surprised you like all kinds of music. The common theme of Music Mondays is not a genre theme, but one of inspiration, of passion, of strength.

I love these lyrics. What I like about PINK is her strong, no nonsense words on the strong female. One that is still feminine and still beautiful, but not fake and not feminist.

I don’t wanna be the girl who laughs the loudest
Or the girl who never wants to be alone
OR – I don’t wanna be the girl that has to fill the silence

As an exaddict myself these lyrics make my skin scream with goose bumps:
    Ah, the night is callin’
And it whispers to me softly, “Come and play”
    But I, I am fallin’
And if I let myself go I’m the only one to blame
    of course followed by:
No pain inside, you’re like perfection
(No pain inside, you’re like perfection)
But how do I feel this good sober?

Thank you Lord of Lords, King of Kings ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I, too, believe Truth can be found in MANY places, often where we least expect. We should keep our eyes OPEN. ๐Ÿ™‚ You rock, Lynn!
