• THE END

    I’ve been plugging away at the third book in one of my series. Last night, I got to type the words THE END.

    I love typing those words. Although I know it’s truly not the end, because I have tons of revisions to look forward to, but still. The story is done from start to finish so I always type the end.

    Now it’ll sit and simmer while I work on other projects.

    But in the mean time. . . maybe you all can help me.

    I need a title.

    Yep. I’m not so great at picking out titles so I could use your advice.

    The first book is called FROSTBITE. CLICK HERE for a summary so you can get the taste of the story.

    The second book is called ABSOLUTE ZERO so I’m wondering what you think I should call the third book.

    I’ve been tossing out a few titles, but I keep coming back to something with Cryos in it (You know, like Cryosphere?) I mean, most of the story takes place in winter. Blizzards, and utter cold. (The previous two take place in the desert so it’s quite a change.)

    Or even just plain old Cryos. It’s Ancient Greek for Cold, Frost or Ice which all apply to this book and the previous two.

    I know publishers change titles a lot of the time, so really, it’s just a working title, but still. It’s fun to come up with something catchy.

    Any ideas?

  • The blank page . . .

    This past weekend, I sat down with my laptop and opened a blank word document.The cursor flashed in the upper left hand corner as if taunting me to type something.

    Daring me to put down some words.

    As if I could turn down a challenge like that, right?

    So…I typed.

    And Typed.

    And Typed.

    It’s the third book in Mandy’s trilogy.It was totally fun getting back into Mandy’s eighteen year-old-mind again and letting the words flow.

    She’s such a fun character to write. But who wouldn’t have fun writing about someone who can shoot ice and snow from her fingertips and lift two-ton trucks over her head,right?

    I’m just sayin’.

    But back to my title: “The blank page…”

    How do YOU feel about that blank page? Starting a new story?

  • Friday Funnies–Frostbite Style

    HI. Mandy here again. So, you might not know this about me-well I’m sure you don’t since my story isn’t published yet-but I’m a little prankster.

    What else would a seventeen-year-old girl who has the power to freeze things do with her newfound power?

    Right?

    I mean, you gotta have a little fun otherwise the days blend together in a dull, boring blob.

    So, there’s this girl, Samantha, right? She’s totally after my guy, Zach. She totally and completely hates me because Zach’s into me all of a sudden.

    Yeah, well, she’s constantly flaunting herself in front of him. Touching him. Smiling with her perfectly straight, blindingly white teeth. . .

    Ugh!

    Sure, Zach doesn’t give her a second glance, but still….

    So, one day, after she tattled on me and Zach for doing something (I’m not sayin’ what . . .), she came up to my locker, gloating.She flipped her long, bottle-blond hair over her shoulder and sashayed away from me.

    I so could not resist . . .

    I leaned down, touched the slick floor and let a stream of ice flow from my finger.

    She turned the corner, and her feet slipped out from beneath her. She crashed, taking two of her little Barbie-doll minions down with her.

    Oh yeah!

    The students packing the hallway roared with laughter.

    I know I should totally not do crap like that. I mean, she could get hurt, right?Oh, let’s face it. That’s a sweet prank.

    ~~~
    What pranks have you played on people before?
    ~~~

    **Oh, and be sure to come back tomorrow for the contest announcement. It’s gonna be sweet!**

  • Meet-Cute

    HI. Mandy here.

    Boy, Rachel’s post from yesterday got me thinking, you know? The whole dating thing. What attracts people to each other.

    In my case, I usually repel guys. That tends to happen when you can potentially freeze their lips off if you kiss them.

    Yep. I’m lucky to have a wicked-crazy power. Freezing things I touch. Oh, and not to mention, I can lift a car over my head.

    You’d think that would leave me pretty muscular, right?

    So NOT the case. I’m impressively wimpy looking, actually. So that doesn’t help with the trying to find a boyfriend thing.

    Needless to say, I usually keep to myself. It doesn’t help much that I have these freaks from The Center trying to find me so they can dissect me to figure out why I can do what I can do.

    Enough about that.

    I thought it’d be fun to talk MOVIES today.

    It’s called the “meet-cute” when the situation/circumstances that the couple is thrown together that will span the movie.

    Like, in Twilight. The first time Bella sees Edward. It’s in the lunch room. But their meeting was at the class, right? He totally freaks on her, doesn’t say a word, but still, they meet.

    I like when they finally talk much better. His eyes are shimmering, and he’s asking her about the weather.

    Oh, and not to mention when he stops the car from slamming into her.

    But enough from me.

    What’s YOUR favorite meet-cute between some movie characters??

    OH, and I have to ask, did you go see ECLIPSE? Did it rock? Haven’t seen it yet. I know, I’m lame.

  • Musical Monday: Frostbite Week

    HI! My name is Amanda Smith. Lynn Rush wrote about me in one of her novels called, Frostbite. She asked if I was interested in hosting her blog for a week, and I ’bout fell over I was so excited.

    I told her she was due for a teenager’s viewpoint on her blog. And since music is what she talks about on Mondays, I picked out a sweet song.

    ~~~
    You Belong with Me, by Taylor Swift.
    Click on the video, then the link Watch on You Tube
    [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOeyyWBZJMY]
    ~~~

    So, why’d I pick this song, you ask?

    Well, these lyrics pretty much tell it the story:

    “But she wears short skirts, I wear t-shirts, She’s cheer captain, and I’m on the bleachers.”

    Yeah, when Zach-I mean THE Zach freaking Landry-started talking to me in detention one day, then asked me out (well, it was more of a bribe, more details on that later this week—maybe) I fell into the whole No-Way-He-Could-Like-A-Girl-Like-Me attitude.

    Seriously.

    Captain of the football team, track star, and all around hottie liking me? A plain-Jane, dish-water blonde, wardrobe challenged girl like me?

    Well, and the fact that I can shoot ice from my fingers and lift a car over my head didn’t help things either.

    So, I guess that’s why I like this song.

    **What songs are you guys listening to? I’ll go check them out on iTunes**
