• The First Review

Well, last week the first of the ARCs (Advanced Reader Copies) went out to the bloggers participating in the Release Day Blogging event.

Yes, I was a bit nervous.

This series is WAY different than the Wasteland novels.

It’s not first person male point of view. There aren’t 400 year-old demons as main characters. No ancient Guardians. . .

Violet Midnight is a vampire book!

    YIKES. I said vampires!

But trust me…the vampires in this book don’t sparkle. They’re just plain…evil

Back to my point…I tend to digress when I’m nervous. LOL.

The first ARCs went out last week, and that’s when the nail-biting began. It’s scary sending out your “baby” to people to read who are outside the critique group and editors who’ve read the manuscript. What if they all hate it? What if..What if..What if..

Then I got a little twitter note from someone reading it telling me they were enjoying it. **Happy Dance**

    And then…

    The First Review

More nail biting ensued, and then I worked up enough courage to click into Goodreads to see what the verdict was.

    Five Stars

I nearly fell over with excitement. This story has a LONG history, one I’ll share eventually, so it was just nice to see it start off with a good review.

I know the low-ratings/reviews will come, because I know I can’t write something everyone will love. But it was nice to start it off on a high note.

October 16th is coming…so stay tuned for Emma and Jake’s story.

In the mean time, you can follow Emma on Twitter and Facebook to see how her vamp-filled college life is going. And if you want a chance to win an ARC of Violet Midnight, CLICK HERE for the chance.

  • New Books…

There are a few new releases out there today. A couple caught my eye…

    Endgame, by Ann Aguirre.

Sirantha Jax has the J-gene, which permits her to “jump” faster-than-light ships through grimspace. She loves nothing more than that rush, but the star roads have to wait…

Her final mission takes her to La’heng, a planet subjugated during first contact. Since then, the La’hengrin homeworld has been occupied by foreign conquerors.

    All that’s about to change.

Now, as part of a grassroots resistance, Jax means to liberate the La’hengrin. But political intrigue and guerrilla warfare are new to her, and this will be the most dangerous game she’s ever played-spies and conspiracies, a war of weapons and hearts, and not everyone is guaranteed to make it out alive…

I’ve not read any of her books, but this one looks pretty good.

And I love that cover. Any chick kicking butt catches my attention! LOL

    Inbetween by Tara Fuller.

Since the car crash that took her father’s life three years ago, Emma’s life has been a freaky – and unending – lesson in caution. Surviving “accidents” has taken priority over being a normal seventeen-year-old, so Emma spends her days taking pictures of life instead of living it. Falling in love with a boy was never part of the plan. Falling for a reaper who makes her chest ache and her head spin? Not an option.

It’s not easy being dead, especially for a reaper in love with a girl fate has put on his list not once, but twice. Finn’s fellow reapers give him hell about spending time with Emma, but Finn couldn’t let her die before, and he’s not about to let her die now. He will protect the girl he loves from the evil he accidentally unleashed, even if it means sacrificing the only thing he has left…his soul.

She was on the blog last week as a part of her virtual book tour.

It’s release day for her today and I’m super excited. Love that cover. I have a copy of the book on my Kindle just begging to be read.

Now, I just have to find time between the edits. LOL

What books are you waiting for to release? What’s up next on your Kindle to read?

  • Playlist Music

This song just jumped out at me when I heard it. Sure fits Violet Midnight, with the loud, harsh music. Strong voice and intense words.

This phrase resonated well with Emma’s character.

I can’t just shut it up and fake that I’m alright.

Now, the writers of the song might have a different meaning they wanted to portray, but those words, along with the music really fit Emma.

Her wrist glows when Vamps are near. She didn’t ask for that. Can’t snuff it out until the Vamps are vanquished. And sometimes, she’s just NOT alright with her station in life.

    Afterlife, by Switchfoot

What are some of the songs you’re listening to these days? Do tell, I’m always looking for new music.

  • Volunteers and Mountains

For those of you who don’t know, I work full time in a bookstore at my church.

Yep. Our church has about 19,000 members, so, the bookstore is very busy. I love it. It’s just the perfect place for me to work even though I don’t write Christian Fiction.

This past weekend, we had a HUGE book sale going on for THE STORY. It’s a version of the Bible we’re going to go through as a church.

So, that meant over 100 volunteers to help out at the sale locations. It was quite an endeavor that had many hands involved to pull it off.

We had SOOOO much fun, despite the 115 degree weather. Here’s me with a volunteer:

Yep. That’s me in the hat! My sweet hubby convinced me to wear that cowboy had so I’d be easily identified as the “leader” of a certain section.

It sure panned out. It was fun to dig that thing out. Not to mention saved me from the blazing sun.

I’m looking forward to another weekend of craziness. But hey, that’s the world I live in, so I’m comfy.

    In other news:

My stepmom (I call her Mum) is starting her fourth cycle of treatment this week. That means FIVE days in a hospital bed hooked up to chemo drugs. BUT, there’s good news.

The PET scan from yesterday shows the chemo is working its magic on that tumor in her spine. AND….she’s even getting some good mobility back in her legs. So much that she’s shed the wheelchair, walker AND arm crutches.

She’s using her hiking poles to steady herself.

That’s a mountain climber for you. She’ll be back climbing those fourteeners sooner than we all think. She’s so strong. Her attitude is so amazing it’s just inspiring.

So, thanks to all who’ve been thinking and praying for her.

What’s new in your world? Do tell.
