Frostbite

  • Name my trilogy…

    I have a trilogy that needs a name! And if I pick yours I’ll put you in the acknowledgements!

    Book one is called Frostbite. Here’s the blurb:

    Amanda Smith is sick of getting chased from town-to-town. So when she lands in tiny Trifle, Arizona, she hopes it’s her last move for a long time. Despite hating the smallness of the town, she settles in and finds a best friend, and even a boyfriend. Normality at its finest.

    But for a girl who can shoot snow from her hands and lift a two-ton truck over her head like a bag of feathers-normal is not an option.

    The scientists who murdered her mother come barreling into Amanda’s quiet life. She must decide if she’ll run again or stay and fight. The price of either choice might be her life or the lives of those she’s come to love..

    And here’s a little taste of the first few lines of the story:

    “I will not freeze anyone today.” I wiggled my fingers. Not that they ever listened to my command, but I had to try something. I’d made it three whole months at this school without accidentally freezing someone.

    Just needed to keep it going for one more week until graduation..

    Book twois called Absolute Zero and Book 3 is Cryostorm. I don’t have blurbs for them yet, but they continue with Amanda Smith through all three.

    Any ideas for what I could call the trilogy?

    Leave your ideas in the comments section.

    ~~~~~~
    If I pick your suggestion I will contact you via email. I’ll name you in my acknowledgements in this first novel once it’s published. Please note, this book is NOT currently under contract with any publisher. But you just never know what can happen in the future–including self-publishing! And please understand, my choosing your suggestion does not make you eligible for any future royalties of any kind whatsoever.
  • Which one?
    You guys ROCK!
    You gave such great ideas in my post a few weeks back about titles.
    Frostbite is the title of the first book about Amanda (Mandy) Smith. CLICK HERE to read that little blurb.
    Book two is called Absolute Zero, so I needed a title for the third book.
    Of all the suggestions and advice, both from the blog post and from fellow crit partners, I’ve narrowed it down to a final few.
    ~~~

    Which one do you like best?

    Cryos

    Snowblind

    Whiteout

    Frozen Night

    Cryostorm

    ~~~
    I know which is my favorite, but I want to hear from you guys, too. Titles often change when the book is contracted because, let’s face it, publishers know more about that kind of stuff. But it’s still fun to throw around fun and catchy book titles in the mean time.
    So, let me know what you think. . . .
  • THE END
    I’ve been plugging away at the third book in one of my series. Last night, I got to type the words THE END.
    I love typing those words. Although I know it’s truly not the end, because I have tons of revisions to look forward to, but still. The story is done from start to finish so I always type the end.
    Now it’ll sit and simmer while I work on other projects.
    But in the mean time. . . maybe you all can help me.
    I need a title.
    Yep. I’m not so great at picking out titles so I could use your advice.
    The first book is called FROSTBITE. CLICK HERE for a summary so you can get the taste of the story.
    The second book is called ABSOLUTE ZERO so I’m wondering what you think I should call the third book.
    I’ve been tossing out a few titles, but I keep coming back to something with Cryos in it (You know, like Cryosphere?) I mean, most of the story takes place in winter. Blizzards, and utter cold. (The previous two take place in the desert so it’s quite a change.)
    Or even just plain old Cryos. It’s Ancient Greek for Cold, Frost or Ice which all apply to this book and the previous two.
    I know publishers change titles a lot of the time, so really, it’s just a working title, but still. It’s fun to come up with something catchy.
    Any ideas?
  • The blank page . . .
    This past weekend, I sat down with my laptop and opened a blank word document.The cursor flashed in the upper left hand corner as if taunting me to type something.
    Daring me to put down some words.
    As if I could turn down a challenge like that, right?
    So…I typed.
    And Typed.
    And Typed.
    It’s the third book in Mandy’s trilogy.It was totally fun getting back into Mandy’s eighteen year-old-mind again and letting the words flow.
    She’s such a fun character to write. But who wouldn’t have fun writing about someone who can shoot ice and snow from her fingertips and lift two-ton trucks over her head,right?
    I’m just sayin’.
    But back to my title: “The blank page…”
    How do YOU feel about that blank page? Starting a new story?
    Have you heard about the Make Me Laugh Contest yet?
    Mandy did a great job sharing it with y’all-Thanks, Mandy.
    So, get to writing so you can enter the contest for a $25.00 gift card! CLICK HERE for details.
    Have a great weekend.
  • Make Me Laugh Contest
    Mandy here again. I get to tell you about the contest!
    Now, if you’ve been following Lynn Rush on the blog, facebook, or twitter, you know she loves to laugh. Heck, Friday Funnies has been going on for a while now. She’s always looking for fun new ways to laugh.
    Even in the stories she reads.
    So, it’s time to get the laugh on.
    Write Lynn a short story that’ll make her laugh so hard, tears will be streaming down her face.
    Seriously.
    I hope Lynn lets me read the entries too, this sounds fun!
    She wants YOUR story. Here are the deets:
    1. 1,000 words or less.
    2. Comedy-doesn’t matter which genre. Make me laugh!!!
    3. Paste your story into the body of an email and send to: [email protected]. **NO attachments please, they’ll get deleted automatically**
    4. Subject line of the email should read: Catch the Rush Comedy Contest.
    5. Did I remember to say 1,000 words or less? Yep, that’s #1 on the list. But remember, 1000 words or less. Cuz that’s a lot of reading otherwise. . . .
    6. Contest runs from RIGHT NOW to July 25th , 2010 – let’s say MIDNIGHT on the 25th (Pacific time). Winner announced on July 31st.
    7. I better set a limit to the entries, just in case we get an outpouring, you know? So, I’ll cap it at 50 entries.
    What’s the prize for your efforts?
    A GIFT CARD!
    Yep, $25.00 card to Barnes and Noble. You’re not surprised it’s to Barnes and Noble, are you? I mean, Lynn is a writer AND a reader. . .
    GOOD LUCK, EVERYONE!
    ~~~

    The rules/guidelines/general boring information I have to share when I do a contest.I’m not associated with Barnes and Noble in any way. They didn’t give me the card to give away. I just really like them and since I’m a writer/reader, I figured I’d give that away as a prize. Winners must reside in the continental US. When the winner is announced, he/she must contact me. If he/she doesn’t contact me within 30 days, the prize is forfeited. One entry per person. Don’t post your entry on the blog, email it to: [email protected]. Put your story in the body of the email. No attachments. Subject line should read: Catch the Rush Comedy Contest. Anything I deem vulgar and just plain disgusting, I’ll delete. I know, that’s really subjective, but hey, my blog, my rules, right? The winner is chosen by me, solely by me, and I know that is subjective, too, but see previous sentence for my thoughts on that J The entry that has me in stitches will win, it’s that simple. Ultimately, this is all in good fun, so play nice, okay? Let’s have some good, clean, literary fun, okay? If you have questions, leave them in the comments, we’ll get them answered asap.
