Debate This…Michael Jackson vs Prince

Debate This is all about voicing your opinion on really important things, such as Pepsi Vs. Coke, Nike Vs. Converse, and Twinkies Vs. Ho-Hos. **smile** Okay, so maybe they’re not super important, but they’re at least fun things to jaw about. . . .

Be sure to cast your vote on the poll below. I’ll share the results later. . . .

Boy, this is a tough one. I can’t believe it’s been two years since Michael’s passing. He was such a talented man.

Now, I mostly remember Prince from Purple Rain. Probably because I was a junior higher and won tickets for the movie, but my folks wouldn’t let me go!

Yeah, now, umpteen years later, I can see their logic. But back then. . . **LOL**

Anyway, what’s your take on Michael vs Prince?

My vote is for Michael… Prince is okay, but Michael was really amazing… I still remember the way my jaw dropped when MTV first aired Smooth Criminal when they did that anti-gravity lean! WOW!!!

Your parents were wise not to let you see, Purple Rain….strange movie. I grew up loving the Jackson 5 and the Osmonds. In college, I enjoyed MJ much more than Prince. I always thought Prince was odd from the beginning, but I think MJ became odd due to his environment and the demands and expectations put upon him. I vote for MJ!

I agree with Danica- depends on my time of life AND depends on Michael’s as well. His 80s music was awesome but when he got all weird and stuff, I was over it. Prince was always cool. Even when he changed his name because of his contract. LOL!

I liked early MG (Jackson five, and just after) but I like Prince better from beginning to…present. I wish I could see him in concert.

I didn’t like MJ much as the Jackson 5, but mostly his earlier stuff like Billie Jean, Beat It, Thriller. A few earlier songs like PYT Rock with me. 🙂

You know, this is almost unfair. It depends on what point in my life we’re talking about. As a very young kid, I couldn’t stop listening to Michael Jackson, but my tastes grew more “sophisticated” by the time Prince came out. I loved the fact that he was so rock-like and MJ became boring to me. Now, in my 30’s…it’s Prince although the little girl inside me still loves to sing along with P.Y.T. every time I hear it.

OMG, Prince all the way! “Get Off” is one of my fave songs of all time. Seriously love that one. And “Darling Nikki” too, though I actually like the Foo Fighters’ version better (please don’t throw stuff at me).

Michael Jackson was awesome, no doubt about that. I really like his earlier stuff – all the way back the Jackson 5. But the later material got a little too whiny for me. I don’t think I ever had that problem with Prince. You know who I’m voting for!

PS- my kids LOVE MJ. My daughter found a book about him at B&N the other day and begged us to buy it. 🙂

Hi Lynn! When I was a teenager I was obsessed with Prince. He was so cool. My mom would rip his posters down but I always had one in the back of my closet. In my late 30s my husband took me to his concert. I’d been to one as a child but as an adult that was one of the best concerts because Prince has talent. I do think MJ outdid Prince with crossover appeal but Prince actually survived mentally. MJ lost himself along the way. I have to say that I totally remember this debate from the 80s. It still comes down to preferences. I do love MJ and am so sorry that he’s gone. Both of these guys are tremendous singers and entertainers.
