    Have a great weekend.

  • Make Me Laugh Contest

    Mandy here again. I get to tell you about the contest!

    Now, if you’ve been following Lynn Rush on the blog, facebook, or twitter, you know she loves to laugh. Heck, Friday Funnies has been going on for a while now. She’s always looking for fun new ways to laugh.

    Even in the stories she reads.

    So, it’s time to get the laugh on.

    Write Lynn a short story that’ll make her laugh so hard, tears will be streaming down her face.

    Seriously.

    I hope Lynn lets me read the entries too, this sounds fun!

    She wants YOUR story. Here are the deets:

    1. 1,000 words or less.

    2. Comedy-doesn’t matter which genre. Make me laugh!!!

    3. Paste your story into the body of an email and send to: [email protected]. **NO attachments please, they’ll get deleted automatically**

    4. Subject line of the email should read: Catch the Rush Comedy Contest.

    5. Did I remember to say 1,000 words or less? Yep, that’s #1 on the list. But remember, 1000 words or less. Cuz that’s a lot of reading otherwise. . . .

    6. Contest runs from RIGHT NOW to July 25th , 2010 – let’s say MIDNIGHT on the 25th (Pacific time). Winner announced on July 31st.

    7. I better set a limit to the entries, just in case we get an outpouring, you know? So, I’ll cap it at 50 entries.

    What’s the prize for your efforts?

    A GIFT CARD!

    Yep, $25.00 card to Barnes and Noble. You’re not surprised it’s to Barnes and Noble, are you? I mean, Lynn is a writer AND a reader. . .

    GOOD LUCK, EVERYONE!

    ~~~
    The rules/guidelines/general boring information I have to share when I do a contest.I’m not associated with Barnes and Noble in any way. They didn’t give me the card to give away. I just really like them and since I’m a writer/reader, I figured I’d give that away as a prize. Winners must reside in the continental US. When the winner is announced, he/she must contact me. If he/she doesn’t contact me within 30 days, the prize is forfeited. One entry per person. Don’t post your entry on the blog, email it to: [email protected]. Put your story in the body of the email. No attachments. Subject line should read: Catch the Rush Comedy Contest. Anything I deem vulgar and just plain disgusting, I’ll delete. I know, that’s really subjective, but hey, my blog, my rules, right? The winner is chosen by me, solely by me, and I know that is subjective, too, but see previous sentence for my thoughts on that J The entry that has me in stitches will win, it’s that simple. Ultimately, this is all in good fun, so play nice, okay? Let’s have some good, clean, literary fun, okay? If you have questions, leave them in the comments, we’ll get them answered asap.
  • David’s Wasteland
    Hello! I’m David Sadler.
    I’m not sure I am able to live up the expectations dear Rachel set in her post yesterday. Having been asleep for nearly 250 years, I’m a bit behind the times.It wasn’t so much sleeping for so long, but in sensory deprivation as punishment for not completing an assignment from my Master. Many things have changed in a quarter of a century.
    One thing I am struggling with is the language.
    Uber, for instance. I have heard several young people use this word. Gage, the demon assigned to watch over me to make sure I get my assignment done, says it is how the young people talk now.
    I may resemble a young twenty-two-year-old guy; however, I’m over four-hundred-years-old!
    Some other words that confused me were: Peeps, Emo, and Crunk.
    Do you all know what these mean?
    I am already at a disadvantage considering my demonic side is clawing to get out at the slightest provocation. So, please, help an old half-demon out and share with me some fun, common words or phrases. I need to fit into the twenty-first century a bit better so I may find my target and possibly vanquish this monster festering inside of me.
    That’s all I really want, after all, is to be human. I didn’t ask for this enslavement.
    In return for your help, I will give you a final chance to earn extra entries into Lynn’s drawing for a $25.00 gift card.
    Leave a comment here for one entry, but if you go and also leave a comment at Wasteland, the story Lynn wrote about me, I’ll have her give you TWO more entries for that comment.
    That would be a total of three for today if you leave a comment in both places.
    Lynn told me she would tally the entries up and announce a winner tomorrow some time. You’ll have to give her some time, though. I have been watching all week and have seen many entries!
    Good Luck.
  • Romance Rocks
    Okay, it’s not mystery, I love romance.
    Heck, look to the left under Me and My Writing and you’ll see a bunch of back cover blurbs of all the novels I’ve written about it.
    I love my romance stories, whether I’m reading them or writing them, to have a supernatural kick. But every once in a while, I run into one that’s kinda cute, despite the fact that it’s not a paranormal romance.
    A while back, I read this book, Menu for Romance. It was a cute read. Made me smile.
    I got to thinking–I haven’t had a contest on the blog for a while . . .
    So, here’s an easy way to win this novel, Menu for Romance. Just leave a comment on this post.
    Yep, that easy.
    I’ll pick a winner and announce it on Saturday, so be sure to check back and see if you win.
    ~~~

    Rules–I know, there’s always rules, right?–One entry per person. Winner must reside in the continental US.

  • Musical Monday

    ~~~
    This video just makes me smile. Taylor Swift is a pretty good singer, huh?
    I had this song playing a BUNCH while writing Charged and Absolute Zero (sequel to Frostbite).
    Do you have any favorite songs that inspire you while you write? Which ones? Do you get more inspired by the words? Or the music?
    I love the words, actually. Sure, the music has to be a little catchy as well, but if the words inspire me, that really gets me in the writing mood.
